How To Take Care of Dance Tights
It makes sense to do everything you can to take care of dance tights as they are an expensive, expendable, dance item.
You will find young dancers will go through a lot of tights with dancing. They need tights to wear to dance class, plus tights to
wear when doing a performance, recital or competition.
They will need pink ballet tights for ballet dances and jazz tights for jazz, tap and hip hop. As these are not cheap items, the more
care we can take, the better and longer they will last.
When performing on stage, you need a perfect pair, with no runs or holes in them. It is a good practice to always have a spare pair
at these times, as it is so easy to catch a nail in the tights when rushing.
If you get a snag or run in the tights, you can prevent it from getting worse by applying a little clear nail polish around the edges. You
can then use these tights for your dance classes.
When putting on tights, bunch each leg up so you can put the toe straight to the end and pull up, rather than pushing your foot through
the whole leg.
For small children, it is better for parents to put these on, showing and teaching your children as you go the correct way to put on dance tights.
For trips to and from the dance class, wear a pair of dance pants on top to further protect your tights.
To wash tights, either handwash or place them in a mesh or underwear bag for washing machines. Do not tumble dry, it is better to hang
them to dry.
