Character dance shoes are often used for a classical ballet exam syllabus. In ballet, they will learn the elements necessary for a National Dance.
The students learn different dance steps and postures. Apart from the

 A Character shoe is often made from a soft, durable canvas on the upper shoe and a suede sole underneath. The most common colour is black.
There is a skin or pink coloured elastic over the top of the foot to keep the shoe on. Other styles of shoes are made from leather, half open or enclosed, with a strap and buckle.
Heel sizes can vary so do check any requirement with your teacher before buying. Mostly they come in a low heel - suitable for young children and a cuban
heel which is slightly taller, which is more suited for older students.
