Sewing Elastic on Ballet Shoes
If you need to sew elastic on ballet shoes, we'll show you how!
Many new dance shoes do not have the elastic attached when you buy them. Do not let this put you off, although a little sewing will
be involved, it is very easy to attach the elastic to the ballet shoes and it gives you the chance to ensure they are placed in the correct position.
To find the correct position for sewing elastic on ballet shoes, follow these instructions.
Take the ballet shoe and bend the back of the shoe (heel) forward until the fold is level with the heel end of the sole.
Where the top of the shoe creates a line across the middle of the shoe mark this spot on both sides. Now try the shoe on the dancers
foot. The places you marked should be level with the height on the instep. If it is not, mark the new spot.
Sew the elastic on one side on the inside of the shoe, making sure you don't push the needle all the way through the leather, just sew
to the lining of the shoe. Do not sew through the drawstring channel.
Put the shoe on the foot and mark where the elastic should be attached on the other side of the foot, making sure it is tight enough to
keep the shoe snug to the foot. Sew elastic to the other side of the ballet shoe.

A NOTE ABOUT SEWING
This is a good introduction to sewing. If your child continues to love dancing and does dance concerts and competitions, which will
involve many dance constumes, you will need to do some sewing, even if the costume is made by a dressmaker as is usual, they will
often have you sewing on accessories and sequins, which also helps to keep the price down.
