STEP UP MOVIE

Tyler Gage is a troubled teenager, living with foster parents in a low class neighbourhood.

A great street and hip hop dancer, there is not a lot of hope or opportunity for him, and so he hangs out with his friends, going to parties, stealing and getting into trouble.

One night, he and his friends break into the Maryland School of Arts, vandalise the place and destroy the stage. The other two get away, but Tyler is caught and sent to do community service in the school.

He meets with Director Gordon and is given the job of helping the janitor with cleaning. One day, he notices Nora Clark, a senior ballet dancer, who is working on a routine for the final showcase. Later that afternoon, she sees him doing some street dancing outside the school. She is impressed with his style of dancing.

Nora's partner injures himself and can't practice with her. Nora can't find another dancer able to do the necessary moves, so Tyler offers to help and they practice together. They gradually become close as they both help each other, adapting to the other's style of dancing.

When Nora's partner returns, Tyler, used to always being rejected, pulls away from her and dancing altogether. He returns to his usual, self destructive habits, but realises in time, that Nora and dancing the showcase are the only chances he has to get out of the neighbourhood and improve his life.

There is a great soundtrack to this film, but if you're thinking of buying the cd, check that it has the songs that you want, there are some songs from the movie, which are missing on the cd, which is disappointing.
